The state of VA has MUCH BIGGER problems with their education system, but it seems we are copying what we see in Washington...wasting taxpayer money and time on nonsensical issues that only benefit a slim minority. (Check out the rate of illiterate children graduating in Fauquier County, VA if you don’t believe me.)
K-12 schools are not the appropriate place to explore your gender identity or sexual orientation. Mathematics, Science, and Literature are all legitimate examples of subjects to pursue in school. Even IF a student chooses to be confused about the reproductive organs they were born with, that is IRRELEVANT to learning how to read, spell, add, paint, sing, or even play an instrument!
This legislation will not provide equity for all students by protecting trans-genders, so much as it is making trans-students a “protected species” while putting cis-gendered students at risk. You can’t protect one group at the expense of another. Also, this legislation undermines our teachers and school staff by degrading their authority with students. If a student can be gender-fluid at any given-time; that can be used to manipulate staff and impede learning.
Our nation legalized homosexual marriage, and already we are hearing rumblings of people wanting to legalize polygamy and pedophilia....where does this stop? Where do you draw the line? Legislate to protect trans-gender students and next up: students want to identify as animals or inanimate objects. This isn’t about protecting a slim minority...this is a politically weapon used issue aimed at destroying absolute norms.
