Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Strongly oppose VDOE transgender guidelines

  • These guidelines will not help to alleviate discrimination
  • women will no longer have a voice in sports. How long have our voices been silenced? How hard have young girls worked to succeed athletically, won college scholarships etc. all Thai will be gone. Gone. Gone. Shame on you for wanting to silence women.
  • if someone wishes to identify as a gender other than their biological sex that’s their right; however, they should Compete in their biological sex category. They should not be discriminated for competing with boys even though they “identify as a different gender”. It’s unfair to allow biological boys to Compete with biological girls. There’s plenty of science to back this
  • It would be helpful to review all science and research to show this new “experiment” with youth will psychologically help children who identify as trans. The current science and research does not appear to support these guidelines but rather suggest a global “experiment” with our youth, which should not be permitted.
  • Parents have the right to guide their children and the schools have no right to take away my right as a parent to nurture and educate my child. I will always teach my children to love and respect everyone, as we are all children of God, and to respect their freedom, but I will never allow someone to steal and usurp my right as a parent to care for and educate
  • kindly approach this matter in a different way... there are other healthy and helpful Ways.
  • these guidelines will do great harm To all children, even those who identify as trans
