The guidelines proposed by VDOE are absolutely in appropriate for schools & students. For any student to simply state a new identity on any given day, without parent knowledge or legal documentation to back up the change, is wrong. Parents oversee their children until they become “adults” at least until age 18 & have a right to know what is going on in school. Without requiring legal documentation, any student can exploit these policies to cause distraction, harm or negative consequences for teachers and other students. In addition, students must feel safe in bathrooms and locker rooms. They should never be expected to share these spaces with members of the opposite sex biologically!! Stop this madness!! I understand that trans students may not feel comfortable in life, but if a student is truly struggling with this issue then he/she need counseling, parent knowledge and support not wishy washy rules from VDOE that put other students, teacher and staff at risk for retaliation.
