Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools

This is all very confusing to everyone involved. There needs to be protection for sure for anyone who is being bullied in any case. Parents should be the first level of authority within reason of a situation. The public servants are to be there to help, not to create division and blindness in the relationship between the child and parent.

This is a violation of privacy of other students depending on how far this is carried in a given situation with gender-specific facilities and dress.

Because of the continued development in children, these policies create chaos and confusion as children are constantly changing. I agree that hostilities should be vanquished, but this is also creating hostility for people with different thoughts on these things and one human and their identity is not more important than another human and theirs. These policies are creating one group of people to bow down to the other without any voice. This is wrong. This is the very thing that we all despise, complete subjection of one's views over another.
