To whom it may concern:
For years transgender Virginians' have been pushed to the side lines. Today, as George Mason University's Pride Alliance, we say no more. We want to make it known that we unabashedly support the updating of regulations surrounding the changing of gender markers on birth certificates-- and thus on other legal documents as well. We need to stand up for our friends, family, and loved ones who are gender queer and/or transgender. This update would make it easier on our transgender Virginian friends, as not every Transgender individual wishes to undergo sex reassignment surgery so they can update their birth certificate with the appropriate gender; and we should not be forcing them to either. However, that is the current system that is in place. We wish for that to be changed.
Having the consistent, appropriate, and true documentation of an individuals identity will only be positive for Virginia.
Thank you for your time,
Elijah Nichols, President
