Many people aren’t able to afford the surgeries for their gender and that shouldn’t be a stipulation for having their birth certificate changed. I’m supportive of Virginians having the opportunity to change their birth certificate to the desired gender that the individual understands themselves to be, not what others say they are. Many people are transgender and understand that the gender they were assigned doesn’t equate with how they identify as a person. Traditional biological binary standards are inadequate and unnecessary in a society that recognizes human equality of the sexes under the law.
