As a Virginian who has transgender friends, loved ones, and fellow church-members, I support this update to the legislation. And as a scientist, I submit that modern medical research supports the existence of human gender variance and endorses support of transgender people.

Virginian citizens seeking to amend their birth certificates should not be required to undergo potentially prohibitively expensive / medically invasive / unobtainable surgeries simply to have ID that reflects their lived lives.
