Please adjust wording of group home legislation to allow community living options!
I ask that the wording of the legislation impacting group homes be adjusted so not to interfere with the profoundly valuable dynamic of live-in caregivers at group homes such as L'Arche. This worldwide model has only brought good to both staff and individuals with disabilities. In fact, the quality of life of those with disabilities (and also those without!) is exceptional, and this is largely reliant upon this model of sharing life together as a true home community. If you have any doubt as to the effectiveness of this particular relationship dynamic, please do reach out to administration at a local L'Arche home to request a visit. When you see with your own eyes the exceptional quality of care, and the environment that enables those with disabilities to be deeply empowered and thus, thriving, you will know it would be absurd to hinder such a beneficial structure.
