Staff should be able to live in group homes.

Please do not change the regulations about those who may live in a group home in Virginia!  I request the removal of the language that a group home must be staffed by those "who do not live in the home."

The L'Arche model has been very successful and has allowed for adults with intellectual disabilities to live with dignity and investment in their place in their housing.  L'Arche has provided space for adults with intellectual disabilities to build community with caretakers and together everyone shares responsibility for their life together. One of the residents told me that this is the only living arrangement in which he has kept his dignity and has been valued as an equal participant in the life of the community, both of the home and in the larger community.

The L'Arche model is one that is used in many other cities and communities in the United States and throughout the world.
