For over 20 years L'Arche Greater Washington has been a model of group homes in the Washington, D.C. areas. When former Washington Post journalst Katherine Boo wrote her Puliter Prize winning articles about the horrific state of group homes in Washington, she lauded L'Arche, as a shining model of what a group home should be. The current proposal to define group homes as having care givers/supervisors who do not live with the residents would make the L'Arche model impossible to operate in VA. Why would the state of VA shut down such a stellar group home model? Please change the definition to allow care givers/supervisors to live with residents. Thank you.
