Please delete the phrase, “who do not live in the home.”
I strongly contest the proposed language: " who do not live in the home" and petition for a change in the final ordinance.
This wording would have a significant impact on choice of service providers for an existing community that uses an in home support model. This community exists in Virginia and is part of a successful, long standing international organization called L'arche. Should this change be adopted, it will exclude agencies like L'arche that use a blended staff model - employing direct care professionals that live in the home AND live out of the home in order to provide 24hr support and supervision - from providing services. L'arche is beloved in in multiple communities across Virginia and in DC AND does an immense amount of good for people with and without intellectual disabilities. Please learn more about them before enacting any changes.
