I am a resident of Virginia and strongly oppose this petition. This petition would cause shelters to duplicate records that most are already keeping, diverting already burdened and thin stretched resources away from animal care, rescue, cruelty investigations, adoptions, everything. Not to mention that public animal shelter records are already and have always been available to the public. The No-Kill Advocacy Center (NKAC) does not believe that there is an animal overpopulation crisis yet the numbers are clearly there. Go to any rural area and you will see first hand the homeless animals who are left on the streets to fend for themselves ultimately suffering until death. As a Virginian, I oppose this petition and strongly urge others to do the same. Shelters should be focusing on animal care and welfare, bottomline.
