I have grave concerns about the appropriateness of the use of the word life-threatening.  Lots of medical diagnoses are life threatening especially if left untreated.  Lots of these medical diagnoses are acute in onset and rapdily resolve with treatment e.g. ....a shattered spleen from a bike accident that requires blood transfusion and splenectomy and the child returns to school in one week with no residual illness.  This child left untreated would be dead. .....a pneumonia or urinary tract infection that can be successfully treated with antibiotics and the child returns to school in one week with no residual illness.  This child left untreated has a significant risk of becoming critically ill.  I believe that the heart of the issue lies around diagnoses that are chronic and do not always respond to treatment.  I do not think that this term life threatening is being used appropriately and will boarden the application of the bill and confuse treating physicians like me.
