STRONGLY OPPOSE

I strongly oppose the proposed 56-hour weekly limit on personal assistance services. As a parent of an adult daughter with profound disabilities, I know firsthand how critical these services are. My daughter is completely dependent on others for every aspect of her care, 24 hours a day. She cannot move independently or even support her own head. She also suffers from unpredictable seizures that can happen at any time, day or night, requiring someone to be constantly available to respond. She currently receives 119 hours of care per week, and her needs do not stop when those hours run out.I understand that exceptions are being proposed, but families caring for people with such severe disabilities should not have to face the possibility of losing essential care or fight through additional bureaucracy to keep it.These hours are not simply assistance with daily activities. For people like my daughter, they are a matter of health, safety, and survival. I urge Virginia to protect the existing care hours of individuals with profound disabilities rather than putting already overwhelmed families through more uncertainty.
