Oppose Medicaid changes to service facilitation and 56 hour cap

Service facilitators serve as advocates for families. They provide families with information assistance and resources. Moving service facilitation takes away families choice of who they want to work with and who they want in there homes. CDNC serves as the fiscal agent for families and they can’t even get that to run smoothly. This change is a disruption to families. It is packaged as if it would be more efficient and save money however, given money to large corporations does not save money. Service Facilitators are not paid benefits, gas or mileage. Using a broker will cost the State more money and there will be less oversight. Families will lose hours needed to care for love ones so that the broker can make a profit. Many families have experienced this when DMAS decided to contract with MCO’s families loss hours needed to care of ones even when they demonstrated the need for the care hours and presented medical documentation hours was still cut. Placing  a 56 hr cap does not take away the need for care. Many families struggle with finding reliable caregivers with the low wages cutting hours will further place hardship on working families to retain caregivers. This is a subtle push towards placing people into institutions. Families are voters and tax payers and should not have constant cuts to service they rely upon.
