My name is Mary Payne, and I am a family member of an person dependent on the waiver program. First, a 56 hour cap on service hours would significantly impact the care my family member needs to live happily and healthily. To care for a person, in a way that is ethical, safe, and healthy, requires extreme care and adequate time for all involved care and activities. People with disabilities are human and deserve to be treated as such. Secondly, the proposed change of having brokers rather than service facilitators would gravely impact the level of care that those with disabilities are entitled to. People dependent on the waiver program deserve caregivers that act with empathy, respect, experience, and advocate properly for their needs. Having brokers take on this role would take out the needed compassion, expertise, and trust, leaving disabled individuals in the hands of those motivated solely by money. Please reconsider and do right by the people you are meant to care for!
