Oxford House

I am writing on behalf of the community I serve and the clients I strive to protect when society fails them. Adding any additional stressors on those that are already struggling in their recovery or mental health is unconscionable and I have the highest hopes that you choose to vote to not jeopardize the safety of a vulnerable population by placing rules or more unnecessary supervisions on our local Oxford house in Virginia. Displacing those vulnerable and attempting to rationalize it as becoming safer due to extra licensure is reckless and also inhumane. As a professional I am so proud to say that I know a lot of amazing clients and humans are still alive and living not just surviving thanks to organizations like Oxford House that do the good work of peer recovery and supports. As a human, I wish that we had them historically so that I could have had them assist in helping someone I loved before they passed away. Please remember that your actions have severe consequences. Please know that you will be making a huge difference in our community by doing your part. Please also be aware that addiction affects everyone regardless of your race, ethnicity, age, sex, and socioeconomic status. It could be you or I in the future needing these same supports, because mental health care is fragile and should be handled with love, mindfulness, and dignity.
