I live in Oxford House Lunaria in richmond. Oxford House is democratically self-governing and self-supporting under the Oxford House system of operations. Oxford house saved my life in so many ways. It has taught me how to pay my bills and be held responsible. The only way I learned that is through Oxford. We all share bills that we equally have to pay so it’s extremely important that I pay my rent. If I stop paying my rent my house fails. And if I fail my house then I fail myself. Without Oxford house I’m not sure what I would do. I support rules that keep people safe, but rules that require staff or assume every home is a commercial business would keep Oxford Houses from operating in Virginia, even though research shows our model gets the best results. Please change those rules, and please clarify whether house members are considered the operator.
