Recommended Changes for VAG

I agree with the proposed revisions, but would add definite reviews to see if advanced placement courses are truly in place  for the gifted in the counties of Va. in the public high schools.  I am certified in gifted ed. in VA., and I have not been able to get a job in Wise county in gifted ed. since I moved to Pound,  Va.,  about 3 years ago.    I do not know how the gifted are served in my county of Wise or a neighboring county of Dickenson.  There is a big thrust in special ed., and there may be an attempt to meet needs of gifted students in sp. ed., somehow-but it is not clear to me.  I am very concerned that the gifted may be identified in elementary grades, and then lost in high school and college.  I am now working at Sykes, Inc., in Wise, Va. and  teaching English 101 at UVA-WISE this semester.  I have a student who said she was  identified in elementary as gifted, and then lost in the shuffle in high school. With the  "No Child Left Behind Act", I thought counties in Va. would be held accountable to show evidence that they are serving the gifted, unless this law has not been put in force as in its original format.  I am very concerned that gifted ed. in S.W., Va. is not in place as it has to be to continue to enforce local, state,  and national security issues, and that some of our brightest students in Va. are being crushed and hurt deeply in their educational training and learning processes, therefore desiring NOT to go to school at all.  .  I recommend a follow-up and tracking of the gifted identified in elementary school.
