Abortion is an emotionally divisive issue that pits a pregnant woman against her unwanted fetus. Unfortunately, it also places fairness in government in opposition to many religious beliefs. There is no solution that will satisfy all parties. The best we can hope for is a compromise that does the least damage and minimizes the pain and suffering caused by the laws we institute. To me, the notion that a fetus in the first trimester is a human being is a religious belief. I see no evidence that a first trimester fetus registers intellectual awareness of itself, nor any knowledge of who it is, where it is, or what it is. My vote is for laws that maximize a woman's liberty to manage her own body and her own life without restriction at least until her fetus has developed past the first trimester.
