EOR

I encourage all law makers to spend a few hours with a family who has a member on the waiver. You will quickly see the trials and tribulations we experience. I take care of my child 24/7/365. I love my child with all that I am but the services I provide her far exceed what the average parent would go through. My child's needs prevent me from seeking outside employment. Being able to log 30 hours per week has been a godsend to our family. Now with the proposed changes, I cannot understand why law makers want to make our lives so much harder than they are. I have attempted to find workers to provide attendant or respite hours and there is no help in sight. The rate of pay will not bring responsible and reliable help. My child will not respond to people she is not bonded with. This poses an even greater risk as she is an eloper. She needs constant supervision. In talking with other families who receive hours for attendant care and respite care, our numbers far exceed the people who are available and willing. I personally would love to have someone who can provide care for my child so that I can let down my guard every once in awhile. It's just not a reality.  I truly believe if you spend some time with families receiving hours and open your eyes to the burdens your proposed changes will bring, you will vote to allow families to have an in home attendant as a relative, as well as continuing to allow an EOR to also be a Live in relative. Every day is already a struggle, please do not add to the weight on our shoulders.
