It’s clear that we need to make sure we are culturally competent which is the ability to understand, appreciate and interact with people from cultures or belief systems different from one's own. It’s been made abundantly clear the last few years  that so many of us are only interested in our own views when the reality is we are a nation built on immigrants and used to pride ourselves on being a melting pot. Like it or we are a nation of various cultures. That’s what makes us great. We need to develop and ability to understand, respect, and celebrate the diversity in our nation. Our students deserve this.
