The petition was considered by the Board at its meeting on December 14, 2018. While
the Board is fully supportive of mentoring and appreciative of licensees who perform
those duties, it has declined to amend regulations to use those hours for continuing
education.
The hours recognized by the Board of Medicine may be used to satisfy Type 2 hours,
but not Type 1 hours. Medicine requires 60 hours per biennium, at least half of which
must be Type 1 hours. Dentistry requires 15 hours for annual renewal and does not
recognize hours that are not approved by an accredited sponsor or organization.
