Notice of Intent to Increase Payments for
Emergency Room Evaluation and Management Fees to Physicians
Notice is hereby given that the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) intends to modify its reimbursement plan for general acute care hospitals pursuant to the Department’s authority under Title XIX of the Social Security Act. This notice is intended to satisfy the requirements of 42 C.F.R. § 447.205 and of § 1902(a)(13) of the Social Security Act, 42 U.S.C. § 1396a(a)(13). The changes contained in this public notice are occurring in response to Chapter 4, Item 326 (JJJ) of the 2004 Acts of Assembly.
DMAS will implement this reimbursement change by increasing by 2% the fees for specific emergency department “evaluation and management” procedure codes (CPT codes 99281, 99282, 99283, 99284, and 99285). This change will apply to the agency’s reimbursement methodology Resource Based Relative Value Scale (RBRVS) used for fee-for-service providers.
The projected annual increase in total expenditures is $280,604 total funds ($140,302 GF; $140,604 NGF) in FY2005 and $297,438 total funds ($148,719 GF; $148,719 NFG) in FY 2006.
