Earlier this year, DPOR staff provided information regarding a study recommended by the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC) to have the Board for Professional and Occupational Regulation (BPOR) review the need for continued regulation of certain professions and occupations.  One of the professions identified in the JLARC report was certified employees of common interest community managers.  As an update, the BPOR will be considering the draft report at its meeting this week.  You can review the agenda, including the draft report that begins on page 4, here:   https://www.townhall.virginia.gov/L/GetFile.cfm?File=Meeting\143\30688\Agenda_DPOR_30688_v3.pdf.  In evaluating the need to continue regulation of the identified professions, staff for the BPOR assessed the programs using the statutory criteria found in 54.1-311 of the Code of Virginia and also solicited public comment during the month of September.  The recommendations in the draft report resulted from the evaluation of the statutory criteria noted above.  Ultimately, it is the decision of the General Assembly whether to make any necessary statutory amendments that would change the current regulatory models for the identified programs.
