| Purpose of the meeting The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host the first Community Engagement meeting for the North Fork Rivanna River Watershed Cleanup Plan on December 13th, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. The meeting is open to the public and any member of the public may participate in the proceedings. The meeting participants will assist in the development of a cleanup plan, also known as an Implementation Plan (IP), to address both bacteria and benthic impairments of the North Fork Rivanna River watershed in Albemarle and Greene counties, which have been listed in Virginia’s § 303(d) list of impaired waters for failing to meet Virginia’s water quality standards due to an exceedance in E. coli and for failure to support aquatic life. The meeting will discuss recommendations on implementation strategies, associated costs, outreach, and funding opportunities, and begin discussing the draft report.
