Purpose of the meeting The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host the second stakeholder meeting for the South Fork Holston River Watershed Cleanup Plan on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. The meeting is open to the public and any member of the public may participate in the proceedings. The meeting participants will assist in development of a cleanup plan, also known as an Implementation Plan (IP), to address bacteria impairments of the South Fork Holston River watershed in Smyth and Washington Counties, which have been listed on Virginia’s § 303(d) list of impaired waters for failing to meet Virginia’s water quality standards due to exceedance of E. coli. The meeting will discuss draft recommendations on implementation strategies, associated costs, outreach, and funding opportunities. Information about this plan development can be found here: https://www.deq.virginia.gov/water/water-quality/implementation/implementation-plans-under-development.
