Purpose of the meeting
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host the first stakeholder meeting for the Moores and Mill Creek Cleanup Plan on November 17, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Stakeholder meetings are open to the public and any member of the public may participate in the proceedings. The meeting participants will assist in development of a cleanup plan, also known as an Implementation Plan (IP), to address biological (benthic) impairments of Moores and Mill Creeks in Rockbridge County. These streams have been listed on Virginia’s § 303(d) list of impaired waters for failing to meet Virginia’s water quality standards due to an altered benthic community caused by too much sediment in the stream. The stakeholder meeting will discuss potential agricultural, residential and urban best management practices (BMPs) to include in the plan, which will focus on strategies to reduce the amount of sediment coming into Moores and Mill Creeks. Participants will also discuss targeting strategies for implementation efforts, identifying areas of greatest need and/or interest in the watersheds. Information about this plan will be posted here throughout the development process: In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be held on November 22, 2022 at the same time and location stated above.
