Purpose of the meeting The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host the 2nd Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting to discuss the development of a clean-up study, also known as Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDL(s)) for Fryingpan Creek, Pigg River, Poplar Branch, and Beaverdam Creek in Pittsylvania, Franklin and Bedford Counties. These streams are listed on the 303(d) TMDL Priority List and Report as impaired due to violations of the State’s water quality standards for the General Standard (Benthics).Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act and §62.1-44.19:7.C of the State Water Control Law require the DEQ to develop clean-up studies (TMDLs) for pollutants responsible for each impaired water contained in Virginia’s 303(d) TMDL Priority List and Report. The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and its contractors, Wetland Studies and Solutions Inc. will discuss the data and process used to develop TMDL goals for the impaired watershed and identify sources of pollution in the watershed. We will solicit feedback on the findings from the watershed stakeholders. This meeting is an opportunity for local residents to learn about the condition of these streams, share information about the area, and become involved in the process of local water quality improvement. | |
