Purpose of the meeting
This is a notice for a meeting of the Salt Management Strategy (SaMS) Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC). Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for chloride associated with salt application from snow and ice management have been developed for the Accotink Creek watershed, located in Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax. These TMDLs were approved 5/23/18. SaMS is intended to assist in the implementation of the Accotink Creek chloride TMDLs. SaMS aims to prepare a strategy that is capable of achieving the target chloride (salt) loads identified in the Accotink Creek TMDLs and that proactively addresses salt application in the broader surrounding region. The project area for SaMS includes Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties and the cities of Alexandria, Manassas, Manassas Park, Falls Church, and Fairfax. For more information on SaMS visit http://www.deq.virginia.gov/SaMS.aspx. The purpose of this SAC meeting is to review feedback on the draft SaMS Toolkit, vote to approve the draft SaMS Toolkit, address plans for the public debut of the SaMS Toolkit, and discuss SaMS Implementation planning. If you have any questions regarding the SAC, this meeting, or the SaMS project, please contact Dave Evans via phone, email, or conventional mail using the information listed at the bottom of this notice. All materials related to this meeting will be posted on the DEQ website at: http://www.deq.virginia.gov/SaMS/MeetingMaterials.aspx Given the existing State of Emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic, this meeting will be held entirely virtually.
