Purpose of the meeting
This is a notice for a Community Listening Session, which is being held to share information on the Salt Management Strategy (SaMS) being developed for Northern Virginia, hear suggestions for SaMS outreach strategies, and receive feedback on the existing SaMS outreach strategies. A chloride TMDL has been developed for the Accotink Creek watershed located in Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax. Additionally, water quality patterns throughout the Northern Virginia region show that the chloride pollution issues observed in the Accotink Creek watershed are not isolated to that watershed, but instead widespread throughout the region. Therefore, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) in partnership with a broad coalition of stakeholders that make up the SaMS Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC) have been developing SaMS, which aims to provide recommendations for more efficient and effective use of salts during winter weather. SaMS includes recommendations for public education and outreach strategies. Attendees do not need to RSVP, however to help the meeting planning, please RSVP at: (please copy and paste to your browser) If you have any questions regarding the Community Listening Session, this meeting, or the SaMS, please contact Will Isenberg via phone, email, or conventional mail using the information listed at the bottom of this notice.
