| Purpose of the meeting On November 13, 2018, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is convening the 2nd Annual Groundwater Stakeholder Meeting focused on the state of groundwater resources in the Eastern Virginia Groundwater Management Area (EVGMA) and Eastern Shore Groundwater Management Area (ESGWMA). The forum will be held at the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission office from 9:00am to 4:00pm. This meeting is open to the public. Presentations and discussion topics are expected to include: (i) an overview of the annual model simulations of the current use and total permitted use status of the aquifers of the Coastal Plain Aquifer systems in both Ground Water Management Areas; (ii) presentations on model improvements over the last year and anticipated future model maintenance; (iii) an update on the status of collaborative work with the United States Geological Survey on an updated hydrogeologic framework for the ESGMA; (iv) an update on the progress of the Hampton Roads Sanitation District’s Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow; and (v) an opportunity for discussion of alternative water sources and development projects, and the activities of the groundwater banking and trading workgroup.
