Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Entitlement before maturity

With the changing of these guidelines and boundaries,  by allowing kids to take ownership and act without parental consent, this move allows children to become adults before they are mature enough for the responsibility.  The law has governing boundaries on driving, alcohol,  tattoos,  insurance benefits, and dependency.  These are in place because the parent is to be in a shepherding role, a training role until maturity has been reached.  By undermining this, you are claiming to be the parent.  If this is so, then where were you in the middle of the night as they cried as an infant, or where were you when we had to go school shopping and pay for materials?  How about when death hit our family,  were you there to comfort and console?  No, because that is the privilege and right given to parents and families.  A move to change such regulations places entitlement in a child's hands who will still need to run to their caregiver, their guardian, their parents when the world fails them.  Back up! Go back to the core! Let families love and love well, even walking kids through hard things.
