As a parent, grandparent and educator, I want to severely object to the guidelines issued by the Commonwealth regarding transgender students. These policies directly and substantially undermine parental rights and responsibilities, granting the school personnel authority to bypass parents when dealing with their children on extremely personal and sensitive matters. Furthermore, these policies cater to the changing whims of students, making it impossible for educators to interpret and enforce these policies. Indeed, how can teachers do their jobs if they have to worry every day about being reported by an “offended” student. These policies fly in the face of biology, adult authority, and common sense. I urge you to remove this policy guidance, and allow districts, in collaboration with parents, to determine more measured and specific policies.
