A 56-hour limit is not enough for an individual with significant and unpredictable support needs. For several weeks each month, this individual may wake as early as 4:00 a.m., require help with daily tasks and medication, and need close supervision because distress can lead to elopement. Mood and behavior can change rapidly, so the level of support needed is difficult to predict. Reducing authorized care to 56 hours per week would not meet these ongoing health and safety needs and could put this individual at risk. Please preserve individualized authorizations based on assessed need and ensure that the 56-hour benchmark does not become a barrier to receiving necessary care.
