I believe this change could be catastrophic to many families that receive PA hours. I am a Support Coordinator and I have a multitude of clients that are able to continue living in their family home because they receive PA hours. Should this change be made, I do not believe DBHDS/CMS/DMAS realizes the ripple effect it could have on services. Families will be forced to put their loved ones into group homes (which is more expensive than just allowing PA hours as is). If you all truly want to remain PERSON CENTERED, then lowering the allowable amount of PA hours is directly oppositional to that core value.
I don't think you all have considered the full emotional, medical, financial devastation this change would cause.
And of course if it is passed, we as Support Coordinators are the ones that will have to handle the fall out, watching families struggle to care for their loved ones.
