I strongly oppose the proposed DMAS changes that would replace Services Facilitation with a Support Brokerage model. My Services Facilitator has helped my family navigate a complicated Medicaid waiver system, understand requirements, avoid service interruptions, and access resources that support my loved one in the community. Their guidance, advocacy, and responsiveness have been invaluable.
I am especially concerned about losing the ability to choose a Services Facilitation provider that best meets our family's needs. Choice and competition help ensure quality services and allow families to build trusted relationships with professionals who understand their unique circumstances.
For many families, Services Facilitators are not simply administrative supports; they are partners who help us successfully manage waiver services and maintain community living. I encourage DMAS to preserve the current Services Facilitation model and maintain family choice. These services make a real difference in the lives of Virginians with disabilities and their caregivers.
Thank you for considering my comments.
As a single mother, I’m exhausted! My 17 year old has profound, non-speaking Autism and also Down Syndrome. He needs 24/7 supervision unless he is sleeping. Working 2 jobs, being the sole person responsible running a household and taking care of my home while juggling what at times seems like another full time job of paperwork, appointments, therapies etc. I drop too many balls already. Please don’t take away the support I have through my service facilitator. I think I can speak for other parents of individuals with disabilities in saying that we infinitely love our children, but often feel like we’re drowning and definitely can’t keep all the balls in the air!
