I was by far the fastest girl on my military installation in my 20s but men who never ran and especially didn’t run competitively could easily beat me. Running against my male peers would have been absolutely devastating to my success as an athlete when I was younger. Also, having to change in a locker room with biological men would have been very upsetting and led me to not participate in sports at all. I worry that that is the future for my daughter. It is not about kindness or inclusivity or sensitivity, it is about what is right. We must protect girls. A society that doesn’t protect girls is a society that cannot survive.
