I am a mom living in Reston, Virginia, in Fairfax County.  Both my kids, now in college, attended public schools in Virginia.  I oppose Petition 462 because it is discriminatory and designed to target and demonize LGBTQ people who are just trying to live their lives.  There are real public health issues faced by women and girls in Virginia such as domestic violence, maternal health, and poverty, as well as sexual discrimination.  During all their years of public schooling in Virginia, both my kids participated in co-ed soccer teams, which were a wonderful leadership and team building experience for them.  They learned the value of cooperation and teamwork, and working and playing with all kinds of kids. Denying this opportunity to certain kids because of who they are is blatant discrimination.  This petition has nothing to do with the health of Virginians and everything to do with hate and discrimination.  No one should be discriminated against because of who they are.  Trans people have existed since the beginning of time and cannot and will not be erased.
