I am a cis-gender woman living in Arlington, VA. I have friends that are transgender, gay, queer, and a niece that is non-binary. I firmly reject any categorization that female transgender athletes pose "physical or psychological harm." Quite frankly, it is the opposite. Transgender individuals are statistically more likely to be targeted with violence , trauma, and bullying. It documented that individuals who decide to undergo gender affirming surgery do so with great thought, oftentimes mental trauma. The decision is by no means made lightly. I firmly believe, as an individual with a disability, that we should respect all individuals, regardless of gender. Family and other individuals who do not understand should have education and an opportunity to support those who are transgender. This discriminatory petition applies to a statistically small number of individuals. Additionally, this petition would not "improve the quality of life of the Commonwealth." It is discriminatory and does not let individuals pursue their own personal freedom to express who they are. There have always been transgender individuals in society. They had to live in the dark with terrible emotional consequences. The result of this petition will reverse progress and hurt wonderful individuals who want to peacefully live their lives. I want to live in a State that allows the freedom to be who you are and instead of targeting transgender women, devotes resources to help the small percentage of individuals who are transgender and/or are pursuing treatment to change sex. This is a much wiser use of the limited resources available in the budget. This proposal does the opposite.
