I am a cisgender woman. Before I retired I worked as a nurse practitioner and had patients who were transgendered and have dear friends who are transgendered.
Transgendered is a complex situation. The public discussion lacks the nuance of molecular and genetic science. XX and XY chromosomes are extremely complex. It is important that the Commonwealth and elected officials lead with intellect and empathy. If our past history has taught us nothing else it should have shown us that targeting individuals because of their differences is cruel and can lead to serious negative outcomes. The argument of trans people committing crimes and exhibiting threatening behaviour is disingenuous and not backed up with facts.
I encourage all elected officials to approach this legislation with intellectual rigor and empathy and to reject Petition 432.
