I live in Fairfax County and I oppose Petition 432.
This petition is not about locker rooms. The Board of Health has no business labeling groups of people harmful based on who they are.
There are real public health issues facing women and girls in Virginia, like domestic violence, maternal health, and poverty. Please don’t let this hateful petition distract from your important mission to protect the health and promote the well-being of ALL people in Virginia.
Across our races, backgrounds, and genders, we all deserve to be treated fairly. There is a nationwide effort by some politicians and interest groups to force transgender people and LGBTQ+ people out of public life. These political attacks harm us all, whether we’re gay or straight, transgender or not, because they foster discrimination and distract us from the real problems we face.
Transgender people mean no harm to CIS gender people
The vast majority of trans-related violence is against trans people. There have been few incidents where a trans person assaulted anyone else.
It's important for all Americans to have the same rights. The trans community seeks nothing but equity with other Americans.
All children have the right to participate in sports, especially intramural school sports. Trans people who have begun medical transition lose their physical advantage soon after starting taking medication.
This also appears to attempt to ban trans people from bathrooms across the Commonwealth. Women's bathrooms are individual stalls and I have not heard of any problems with their usage.
A transitioned trans woman is frequently indistinguishable from any other woman; they would not be allowed in a men's room. And they cause no harm to other women by their presence.
This petition has nothing to do with the health of Virginians and seems focused entirely on removing trans people from public spaces
No one should face discrimination because of who they are. Trans people have always been here, and always will be. Trans people cannot and will not be erased.
