There is no science behind this Petition.  This is just another attempt to harm commercial menhaden fishing.   Science behind the menhaden biomass and its impact from commercial fishing is as strong as any fishery and it is concluded that Atlantic menhaden is neither Overfished, nor is it experiencing Overfishing.  Science has further concluded that its impact on the striped bass population is not what the proponents of this Petition state; striped bass are Overfished, and science has shown that all menhaden fishing could best stopped and it would not bring back the striped bass population unless and until overfishing on the striped bass stock is controlled.
