Continue to stay in RGGI

I am writing in support of Virginia staying in RGGI.  It took many years to become part of this initiative and it is helping Virginia to get on track to a clean energy future.  If we do not want Washington to tell us what to do about saving the environment, we as a state need to make smart decisions and participate in environmental programs that benefit our communities.

I am also in support of the Virginia Clean Economy Act and the Advanced Clean Car Standards.  All of these programs and initiatives will promote a healthier and safer environment for our citizens and for our children.

Specifically, my region of Virginia, Charlottesville and Albemarle county, have benefited from the funds generated by RGGI.  Many of our lower income families are benefiting from weatherization and efficiency measures that the RGGI funds have produced.  As a result they are more able to meet their energy bills and use less fossil fuels which benefits our environment. Electricity prices in RGGI states dropped by almost 6% as they went up by almost 9% throughout the rest of the country. RGGI is saving Virginians’ money and supporting the transition from volatile fossil fuels.

I am proud that Virginia's Clean Economy Act is the most ambitious climate action plan in the South. We need to continue to lead in this arena. Governor's Energy Plan should make sure that the Commonwealth continues on the path toward meeting all of the critical climate goals in the Act.

Thank you
