Action:
Licensed Behavior Analysts to be Credentialed Addiction Treatment Professionals
Action 6692
General Information
Action Summary |
This regulatory action amends the Virginia Administrative Code to include Licensed Behavioral Analysts (LBAs) in the definition of the term “Credentialed Addiction Treatment Professional” as required by legislation from the 2024 General Assembly. LBAs are currently included in the definition of a “Licensed Mental Health Professional”. The Medicaid provider community has asked that LBAs also be included in the definition of a “Credentialed Addiction Treatment Professional”, as substance use disorder (SUD) treatment is a subspecialty of behavioral analysis and LBAs may provide SUD services within the scope of their Board of Medicine license. Adding LBAs to the definition of a “Credentialed Addiction Treatment Professional” also represents an effort to address the shortage of available credentialed addiction treatment professionals in Virginia. |
