This action will remove the Interagency Scenic Roads Map Advisory Committee Policy and Selection Criteria from VDOT’s official guidance documents list. This document is no longer relevant as the Interagency Scenic Roads Map Advisory Committee no longer exists and the document is no longer used by VDOT. Removing it from the guidance documents list will ensure only up-to-date and relevant documents are presented to the public as guidance documents.

Revisions to the Virginia Official State Transportation Map Policy and Procedures will update the names of the VDOT Communications Division and its Creative Services Section and Cartography Section where they are referenced in the document. Other minor clarifications will remove a reference to the Office of the Secretary of Transportation and a list of potential types of eligible historic buildings and will add a list of relevant individuals included in the state map committee.

Adds Buchanan County as a county which maintains designated Secondary roads. Describes the requirement for VDOT staff to use the “VDOT Abandonment and Discontinuance Form”. Updated information related to Interstate and U.S. Highways relating to revised American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) requirements. Notes Secretary of Transportation guidance related to the use of §33.2-901. References current 2024 version of the SSAR, updated from 2011 version. Provides details about the 2024 revisions to the SSAR (2022 Ch. 425). Addition of “Permanent Roadway Easements” right-of-way type for federally owned land. Addition of list of highway system changes that are exempt from surety and fees. Minor grammatical and clarifying edits were also made throughout the document but are not described herein.
