Also strongly opposed to the proposed mandatory PE educational requirements:

Engineers that have acquired their PE license have done so by extensive study and hard work. They realize that their solutions have to be correct. Staying up-to-date with current trends in their respective fields is part of the professionalism that comes with attaining the PE license. If the current trend in state governments requiring additional education is based on recent structural failures in bridges and other structures, such as radio towers, then the priority is misplaced. In most engineering firms work is checked by peers, and so most design failures are not due to one person alone, and not to lack of available knowledge. Due diligence must be adhered to and maintained in developing and testing designs and verifying their adequacy for the loads that will be applied. Professional Engineers have already proven that they can learn difficult subject matter. Requiring a number of credit hours of course work per year will not ensure that safety and reliability are attained or maintained.
