PROPOSAL TO REQUIRE CONTINUING EDUCATION

I oppose the proposed amendment to impose a continuing education requirement for architect, professional engineer, and land surveyor license holders.  I obtained my Virginia PE liscence in Mechanical Engineering in the early 1980s and have practiced as a mechanical engineer for 28 years before retirng in 1999.  Although I do not currently practice engineering I am proud to hold the licence and have elected to maintain it in case I may return to engineering in some capacity in the future.  Due to numerous family responsibilities and other commitments, I would regretably be forced to relinquish my licence should this amendment be adopted.  I echo many of the earlier comments submitted questioning the value gained from this proposal.
