CE Hour Requirement Overstated, Improvement to Public Safety Questionable

I took the PE exam 20 years after obtaining my BS degree.  I had to learn "20 years" of new material for the test.  I learned it on my own.  There were no "everything new since you graduated" classes. I received no credit for this other than passing the exam.   However, it equated to far far less than 160 CE hours (16 CE hours X 10 Bienniums).  I believe 16 CE hours per biennium is two to four times too high a requirment.  While classes may help us to maintain currency, I don't see how they will improve public safety as is an intent of the bill.  Instead, perhaps it would be more effective to make safe driving school mandatory for licensed/registered professionals.
