Commenter: April Moore, a concerned citizen in Shenandoah County

I urge the state of Virginia to adopt strong stormwater regulations.

While I am encouraged that municipalities, farmers, and many others are doing their part to protect our water habitats and drinking water, it's time for developers to do the same.  Please enact strong stormwater regulations that protect our rivers and streams from the dirt, bacteria. toxic fertilizers, and chemicals that wash off parking lots, lawns, and roads every time it rains.

The issue is particularly important in the Shenandoah Valley where I live, because this is a karst region.  Porous limestone means that surface waters and ground waters mingle readily.  Pollutants in surface water end up in our groundwater.

Our environmental problems are worsening around the state, country, and the world.  It is time to stand up and say "Enough!"  We need to start protecting our precious resources.  Our future and that of our children depend on it!

Sincerely,

April Moore
